6th Grade Homeroom

& Music Teacher: Diane Winget

About Mrs. Winget:

I graduated from WSU in 1997 with a BA in Political Science and from Heritage University in 1999 with a Secondary Education Certification with endorsements in Social Studies, English, and Government/Civics. I am also currently seeking my endorsement in General Music Education and am super passionate about teaching kids to love and appreciate music. This will be my 11th school year as a staff member of St. Joseph School.

Our 6th grade students immersed themselves in an out-of-this-world experience at the Columbia Basin College Planetarium! They explored the wonders of space, learned about stars, planets, and galaxies, and discovered how science and curiosity open doors to the universe. This hands-on field trip brought classroom lessons to life and sparked imaginations for future explorers.

During the year, 6th grade students will focus on the following:

History- Ancient Civilizations: In 6th grade history we study ancient civilizations and the world through 1750. Using the interactive and robust "History Alive” curriculum, we will study the foundations of history, explore the rise of civilization, and dive deep into individual ancient civilizations such as Egypt, Kush, Rome, The Americas ,India, Japan, China, Greece, Europe, The Middle East, Africa, and more. We will study the geography of the regions, their social structures, economies and political systems.

I graduated from Carroll College with a B.A. in Secondary English Education and a Minor in Catholic Studies. I currently teach 6th Grade and 8th Grade ELA/Literature as well as 8th Grade Religion. My favorite part about teaching is building relationships with my students and seeing the connections they make both in and outside of the classroom. It’s so fulfilling to witness students engage their mind, body, and spirit. Outside of school, you’ll often find me spending time with loved ones or whipping up a sweet treat to enjoy!
